and in these hands
the works of tens of thousands
of ancestors
with names i'll never know
and on this tongue
the tastes of every homeland
guayabas, cholent,
pomegranates, cloves
and in these feet
the miles that they travelled
through roads and dangers
i can only guess
and in these eyes,
the dreams of generations
in the making
waiting to take breath
and in this voice
the cries and laughs and heartaches
of all the ones before
and yet to be
and in this heart
and in this soul and body
we weave our lives
and all our stories meet
